Golden retriever VS other dogs: Which is the best?

Golden Retriever VS Labrador

Golden retriever VS Labrador, Golden retriever VS Husky

Retriever VS Labrador

Both golden retrievers and Labradors are more popular choices for those considering medium to large sized dogs.
What are the differences in size between goldens and Labradors? If we check out the size, males are definitely larger than the females. Their height is measured at the shoulder blades, which is the tallest point on the body and not the head.

Dog Comparison |Physical traits

According to breed standards put forward by the American Kennel Club (AKC), male Golden retrievers stand at a height of 23 to 24 inches, while females stand at 21.5 to 22.5 inches. Males weigh about 65 to 75 pounds, while females weigh 55 to 65 pounds.

The AKC standards for the Labrador retriever breed show that the height of males is at 22.5 to 24.5 inches at the withers; female height is between 21.5 and 23 inches. Male Labradors weigh between 65 and 80 pounds, while the weight of female Labs goes from 55 to 70 pounds.

As per these stats, the Labrador is therefore a slightly larger dog than the Golden. The above breed standards are particularly useful for show quality dogs and so, you can get a pet quality dog that is larger or smaller than the breed standard, depending on the specific animal.

Most goldens are more elegant and symmetrical than Labradors, which tend to be more compact and sturdy than overly refined.
A golden has a medium length double coat with water repelling top and a soft undercoat. They also have longer fur on the tail, neck and legs.

The Labrador has a double coat too. Its soft undercoat protects it in cold weather and the top coat is evidently shorter in length than the Golden’s. Both breeds shed their undercoat in warm weather.

What dogs are good with cats?

Labs and goldens are not the perfect choices for guard dogs. They are very friendly to be counted on as alert guard dogs, since they are more likely to warm up to an intruder. Both are also loyal, friendly and protective to the family.

Golden Retriever VS Husky

The husky weighs 35 to 60 pounds and is 20 to 23.5 inches tall, while its counterpart the golden stands at 21.5 to 24 inches tall with a weight of 55 to 75 pounds. Both Husky and Golden retrievers possess double-layer, water-repelling, thick coats. These dogs continually shed year-round and “blow coat” at times to keep their coat in good condition. So you can have a regular brushing, cleaning and grooming duties with both breeds.

The husky is so friendly to the family and can live well with other pets at home. Huskies are known for their prey drive so therefore, they can pose danger to other vulnerable family pets. They make good guard dogs.
When it comes to temperament and personality, both huskies and golden retrievers are outgoing, friendly and social; they are great companions to be with.

The Siberian husky falls under the category of a medium-sized dog while the golden retriever is classified as a large breed dog. The amount of space that is required by the retrievers is larger than that needed for the husky.
In terms of which breed is more energetic than the other, the Siberian husky takes the lead as the retriever follows. This explains why Huskies need more space to run around and burn energy off their body. Still, golden retrievers are considered a high energy breed.

Golden retrievers shed more hair and this calls for regular grooming. Huskies have a high tolerance for heat and cold, but will thrive better in colder climates. Retrievers are tolerant to cold weather, but hot climates tend to be more challenging for them.

Golden retriever VS Beagle

Watch The video here Let us compare purebred golden retrievers and Beagles. First of all, both have high intelligence and yet, they are not hypoallergenic. The lifespan of the beagle is 10-15 years while the golden retriever lives for an average of 10-12 years. The height of the beagle is 13 to 16 inches while the golden retriever spans with a height of 21 to 24 inches. The beagle weighs 20 to 30 pounds while the retriever weighs 55 to 80 pounds.

Concerning the temperament of the beagle, this particular breed is friendly or amicable. They are medium-sized dogs that are super friendly and really moody. They have a short coat. Since they make friends with pretty much everyone they see or meet, they make terrible guard dogs.

Beagles were originally developed as hunting dogs and therefore, they require more exercise than most owners give them. They have a short coat and tend to be fat or plump.

Golden retrievers have a friendly disposition as well. They are loyal and friendly and not moody at all. Goldens are large sized compared to beagles and are excellent at tracking, retrieving game for hunters, therapy/ assistance dogs and sniffing out drugs.

They are super friendly, hence they cannot make good guard dogs. Their coats need regular grooming because they shed a lot. They should be trimmed to avoid the formation of tangled knots that make the puppy look shabby and uncomfortable during seasons like summer.

Goldens shed a lot at least two times in the year. It is expected to have dog hair everywhere once you own this dog. Beagles also shed, but you cannot easily notice it since their hair is short. Their coats get thicker during winter so they shed more in the spring.

Golden retriever VS German shepherd

The golden retriever stands at 21.5 to 24 inches from the paw to shoulder when they are mature. This dog weighs about 55 to 75 pounds. The German shepherd stands at 22 to 26 inches from paw to shoulder and weighs between 50 and 90 pounds at maturity.

On account of how friendly the golden retriever is, it will never make a very good guard dog. This is not your breed dog if you are looking for one with strong guarding tendencies. It will probably just lick, pat or even wag at the thief as they normally would to a friend or a family member. The German shepherd is one of the best guard dogs you could ever have.

The only challenge you can face with a German shepherd puppy is to make sure it is well socialized enough so that it can tolerate newbies and sense the difference between a potential enemy or a friend.

Currently, most dog owners are somehow concerned about controlling dog shedding to manage pet-related allergies. Both golden retrievers and German shepherds are the same when it comes to coat shedding.
